75th Anniversary Bridge Walk

The "Famous 55" make their way across the also famous Sydney Coathanger.

The opening of the Sydney Harbour Bridge in 1932 was memorable. For 55 special people, the 75th Anniversary walk on 18 March 2007 was as memorable.

Guide Dog Users, Cane Users, Puppy Raisers and puppies, family, friends and Guide Dogs NSW/ACT staff spanned the main deck’s six-lanes as they walked the Bridge.

Undoubtedly, it was the first time so many people associated with vision impairment had walked the deck of the Bridge at one time.

More than 200,000 other people joined our “55” in celebrating the Bridge’s 75th birthday – and what a fantastic day it was for our Coathanger.

Organising the main and related events must have been daunting, especially as it was the longest time the Bridge had been closed since 1932. But, thanks to the “behind the scenes” people it all went off without a hitch.
