Alyssa - The challenge of childhood

Vision impairment, for young children like Alyssa, has a major impact on learning and development. Spatial skills that are readily acquired by sighted children require intensive training programs to develop.

Guide Dogs’ instructors have been working with Alyssa to maximise the use of her limited vision and have made substantial progress in improving her mobility skills while reducing her reliance on a ‘kiddy’ cane. As she grows and develops, Alyssa will learn new skills to help her lead a full and productive life.
