Model Dog walks
 Printer Friendly

Model Dog
It’s not every day that a Model Guide Dog walks away from its position.
However, just as everyone waswinding down for the Christmas break, one brazen thief calmly
walked out of Hexham Bowling Club, with a large Collection Dog tucked under his arm, in full
view of a 24-hour security camera.

Guide Dogs has 900 such Collection Dogs out in the community and they help us to raise
community awareness as well as providing us with much needed funds, so it was a great shock
to hear that someone had stolen one from inside the Club.

However, what was amazing was the generosity of the public when they heard the story.
Guide Dogs received a number of calls of support and we would like to thank the staff and
listeners of 2GB in particular who, through Chris Smith’s three hour broadcast, raised an
astounding $4 300 for Guide Dogs. It was a much needed boost to our Christmas appeal.

The dog was found a few days later on a neighbouring front lawn, minus the cash.
It has now been returned to Hexham Bowling Club.
