"I've been patted and petted...seen lots of
feet and sniffed lots of hands. And now I've
had a drink, I'm ready to talk to you.

On International Guide Dog Day, 18 April, Guide Dogs NSW/ACT had an information stall
in Sydney’s Pitt Street Mall. Officially it was from noon to 2.00pm but people talked to
us well before and after.
Held annually, International Guide Dog  Day affords the opportunity to raise awareness
of Orientation and Mobility and the independence it brings to people who are blind or
vision impaired.

Our stall in Pitt Street Mall gave workers, commuters, students and visitors the chance
to meet, pat and stroke a bevy of puppies soon to embark on serious training to become fully qualified Guide Dogs.

We were delighted with the interest and answered many questions about training
Guide Dogs and their valuable role in helping enhance independence and confidence of
their users.

It was a day of success, fun and education ... and formed an essential part of the many “Meet & Greet” events that are part of our 50th Anniversary celebrations.

A constant stream of people visited the stand, petted the dogs and asked questions of the staff and volunteers.
