Rail Poster - November 2007

In the right hands, our canes can go anywhere.

November 2007 Rail Poster Campaign

Take a look around. Do you think you could reach the spot where you're standing if you were unable to see?

For most of us, attempting such a feat would be both difficult and dangerous. But not for a person with a White Cane.

That's because we teach people with impaired vision how to travel safely. For example, you'll often find strips of bumps running along the ground near stairs and other hazards. (There's a good chance there are some on the platform you're standing on.) These bumps are not there to give you better grip. In fact, these strips help people navigate around obstacles. And learning how to 'feel' for them is on of the many techniques a person has to master.

But, once their training is complete (taking around 40 hours), a person with a White Cane really can go anyhwere.
