Transport Subsidies

At Guide Dogs NSW/ACT, we work with people who have impaired vision so that they can travel safely and independently. Many organisations in NSW and the ACT assist us in this work by providing transport subsidies.

For example, the NSW Department of Transport and Infrastructure administers the Taxi Transport Subsidy Scheme (TTSS) and the Vision Impaired Person's Travel Permit.

The TTSS helps NSW residents who can't use public transport because of a qualifying severe and permanent disability, and entitles them to travel by taxi at half fare. Though participation is not means tested, there are strict eligibility criteria. For more information or to download an application form, please visit the TTSS website.

The Vision Impaired Person's Travel Permit provides free travel on all metropolitan Sydney and outer-metropolitan bus services. Permit holders may also travel for free on CityRail trains, as well as on Sydney and Newcastle ferries. For more information on this scheme, including the eligibility criteria, please call (02) 9379 4441 between 8.30 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday to Friday.

In the ACT, Action Buses ACT provides free travel for passengers who have impaired vision. For more information, contact Action Buses.
