Guide Dog pup Jet takes off for Deloitte
In many ways, eight-month-old Jet is like any other Labrador puppy. He loves tummy rubs, going for walks and devouring his dinner.
However, there's one important difference about Jet - he is a Guide Dog puppy-in-training.
Jet is special in another way as well. He is sponsored by the ACT office of financial-services firm Deloitte.
Training each new Guide Dog takes around $30,000. We receive no government funding to help us with these expenses.
That's why we have developed a program that allows businesses like Deloitte to sponsor a Guide Dog-intraining.
Deloitte staff receive regular "Pupdates" about Jet. They've already discovered that he is living with a puppyraising family near Wollongong, and that he has a gentle, affectionate personality.
Jet is also very smart. He has mastered basic commands like "sit" and "stay", and is now also learning skills he will need as a Guide Dog, such as stopping at kerbs.
Like all our puppies, Jet is visited often by Puppy Raising Officers from the Guide Dogs Centre. They report that he is making excellent progress in his journey towards becoming a Guide Dog.
