Puppy Raising is a foster program for our young recruits, so they receive the best possible care in a loving home environment. Puppy Raisers come from all walks of life, from dog lovers who wish to own a dog but can't provide lifelong care, to families learning to raise a dog before having their own pet. But they have one thing in common - Puppy Raisers help to change people's lives forever. As a Puppy Raiser, your dog will become an invaluable companion to a person with special needs in your community, either as a Guide Dog or a Pets As Therapy dog.

Puppy Raisers are responsible for feeding, grooming and exercising the dogs daily, along with basic obedience, house-training, and visits to the vet when needed. Despite this important training however, the pups are first and foremost puppies, so plenty of games and tummy scratches are a must.

If you are selected as a Puppy Raiser, you will care for our puppy from about 8 weeks to 14 months of age, an important time of learning for dogs. We provide ongoing support and advice for our valued Puppy Raisers, with regular visits to your home and puppy training days at the Guide Dogs Centre in Glossodia or other local meeting points.
