About the Artist

The boarders of Abbotsleigh Girls School have helped raise 11 Guide Dog puppies since 2006. The pups come at 10 weeks old and live in the boarding houses with the students until they return to the Guide Dogs Centre at 12 months old for their official training.

Please note that all dogs have been on display at the Chinese New Year festivities and therefore may have some imperfections. All Art Dogs for sale are available for collection from the Guide Dogs NSW/ACT office in Chatswood at the buyer's expense. Collections can be made during business hours by appointment after full payment has been received.

About the artwork

Abbotsleigh's Art Dog

Sparkie, as the sculpture has been called, celebrates the joy the puppies spark in the boarding community as the students engage in a year-long service project. The puppies love unconditionally, and bring an important part of home to the boarders. In turn, the boarders spark a lot of confidence in the pups! The design of fireworks and ‘boarder blue’ was created by the year 10 Abbotsleigh Boarder Council leaders who wanted to reference the great tradition of fireworks that occur as part of the Chinese New Year Festival. It’s a great privilege for the boarders of Abbotsleigh to be involved in this project. We look forward to supporting Guide Dogs NSW/ACT for many years to come.
