About the Artists

In 2016 Matt Bryant, who is vision impaired, spoke at a weekly meeting of the Rotary Club of Orange North. Matt and his Guide Dog, Bronco, inspired the club to embark upon a community project which we named Our First Orange Dog. In the ensuing months Matt gave presentations at 21 schools throughout the Orange district. Students were invited to take part in a sponsored walk around the Orange Botanic Gardens. Many Orange businesses provided generous sponsorships and the Rotary Club of Orange North held 12 sponsored barbecues to raise more funds. By the time of the walk on Sunday 26 March 2017 the project had raised over $36,000 for Guide Dogs NSW/ACT.

About the artwork

Rotary Club of Orange North's Art Dog

We named our model dog Autumn after this most lovely of Orange seasons. It is also the name of our sponsored Guide Dog puppy. Autumn is painted by local artists Glen Southwood, Manfred Homann and Tony Kennedy. Our dog is peering out from one of the bountiful grapevines which make Orange famous for its cool climate wines. The base shows other iconic images of Orange; Duntryleague Mansion and Golf Course, Lake and Mount Canobolas and the beautiful cherry blossoms which signal the coming of spring.
