About the artwork

Toby Evans' art dog

My Guide Dog Osh’s surface patterning is composed from a mosaic treatment of my digital art works that are based on various iconic Sydney locations. Included artworks that appear are Luna Park (by day) and Luna Park (night version); Bondi Beach sunset; Bondi Icebergs; stand up paddle boarder of the northern beaches; photography artwork of Sydney city skyline; cockatoo in Botanic Gardens; Vaucluse lighthouse sunset. These artworks take their artistic style from the Fauvist art movement and Modern Impressionists (André Derain & Paul Signac, Vincent van Gogh and other artists). A photograph of my painting of my much loved (and dearly departed) Hungarian Vizsla, Oshua, is juxtaposed within the images. Oshua features as the soul of my Guide Dog. Each paw is made up of spliced up strips from his portrait, finished with a bronze metallic paint, acting as a division between the dog and plinth. Oshua the Guide Dog celebrates life, summer and the party spirit of Sydney with his red and white glasses and sparkly red harness and handle. A good luck colour for the Year of the Dog. I love Sydney and invite you to identify some of the locations listed above.
