Pathways to Inclusion

A woman walks along a sidewalk with her Guide Dog

Guide Dogs NSW/ACT, Blind Citizens NSW, People With Disability Australia and Inner West Council have collaborated to undertake consultation and research to provide practical advice which will assist Councils to develop and implement their Disability Inclusion Action Plans (DIAPs) and monitor practical outcomes to make their local communities accessible.

We are grateful for the large number of respondents who shared their local experiences and personal expertise through completing the Survey in December 2016 and January 2017.

The resulting ‘Pathways to Inclusion’ combines the knowledge and expertise of the above organisations, as well as survey outcomes, in a practical supplement to the material that Councils are already using as a reference.

Whilst it is acknowledged that there have been many initiatives, strategies and a range of policy and enforcement measures already put in place by Councils to improve infrastructure there is still much more to do. This document identifies key access issues as they relate to Liveable Accessible Communities and provides practical, actionable advice to Councils.

Guide Dogs NSW/ACT, Blind Citizens NSW, People With Disability Australia and Inner West Council are committed to continuing our advocacy and efforts to make all local communities accessible. We encourage people to continue to let us know of concerns, issues and ‘good news’ experiences as they arise.
