City to Surf 2014

Join Guide Dogs NSW/ACT in this year's City2Surf and you will be running alongside people like Janine!

Janine Holt and her son Lachlan know first-hand the difference that your support can make to someone who is vision impaired. Lachlan has been helped by Guide Dogs NSW/ACT since being diagnosed blind at birth. Janine is running and fundraising for Guide Dogs in this year's City2Surf to give something back to the organisation who has been there for her and her son Lachlan from the start.

Bringing up a child with impaired vision has some huge challenges, but Janine has adopted a can-do attitude: "I am so determined that my son will have the best start to life that I can give him. And with the help from Guide Dogs he's been achieving just that." she says. At 19 months Lachlan is doing well; walking unaided, climbing stairs, jumping on the trampoline and riding a trike, as well as enjoying simple things like the feel of rain and wind on his face.

Guide Dogs instructors will assist Lachlan free of charge throughout his whole life, from teaching him to use a white cane, orientating him in his surroundings and later in life providing him with a Guide Dog.

Janine has just begun training for the City2Surf and she is excited about running alongside family on 10th August.

Janine is also encouraging other people to join her on the Guide Dogs team to help reach the team's $35,000 target. "I would encourage anyone thinking of running the City2Surf this year, to join the Guide Dogs Team. Together we can help raise the $35,000 needed to help people like Lachlan who may need a Guide Dog in the future".

Join Janine on the Guide Dogs Team.

If you can't make this year's run, you can help Janine reach her fundraising goal of $2,000 by donating on her fundraising page.
