Chrissy's Story

Video Still of Chrissy talking about how she met her Guide Dog Lacey

Six years ago when Chrissy was in her final year of university, she was suddenly diagnosed with Stargardt's Disease, a disease that causes progressive damage of the retina which is responsible for sharp and straight ahead vision. Chrissy’s central vision began to deteriorate, and for the past two years she’s depended on her Guide Dog Lacey to get around safely and independently.

The last few years have been a whirlwind of emotions for Chrissy, who is now more determined than ever to break down barriers for people living with sight loss, along with stereotypes about what sight loss looks like.

"Even though I’ve had to deal with losing my sight and the turmoil that comes with it, moments like these make me so grateful for my experience because without losing my sight, I wouldn’t have Lacey and I wouldn’t have met Lillian. Given the chance, I wouldn’t change what has happened to me because I have met the most incredible people and furry friends."

You can follow Chrissy on her Instagram Account at @chrissyrenee where she shares inspiring stories and moments with her Guide Dog Lacey.

Guide Dog Lacey's Pawgust Fundraiser Page

Chrissy and her Guide Dog Lacey have recently signed up for PAWGUST and will be commiting to walking 30 minutes every day during the month of August to raise funds for Guide Dogs Australia. Her goal is to raise $50,000 through Guide Dog Lacey's PAWGUST web page at www.pawgust.com.au/fundraisers/laceytheguidedog/pawgust

“I wanted to give back to the organisation that made it possible for me to have my Guide Dog Lacey. She’s changed my life; she’s allowed me to get out in public and to accept my situation and my sight loss. I know that I’ll have more than one Guide Dog in my lifetime, so this is my opportunity to give back”

Support Chrissy and her Guide Dog Lacey or take on the PAWGUST challenge with you and your furry friend by registering before August!
