Chrissy's Story

Video Still of Chrissy talking about how she met her Guide Dog Lacey

Six years ago when Chrissy was in her final year of university, she was suddenly diagnosed with Stargardt's Disease, a disease that causes progressive damage of the retina which is responsible for sharp and straight ahead vision. Chrissy’s central vision began to deteriorate, and for the past two years she’s depended on her Guide Dog Lacey to get around safely and independently.

The last few years have been a whirlwind of emotions for Chrissy, who is now more determined than ever to break down barriers for people living with sight loss, along with stereotypes about what sight loss looks like.

"Even though I’ve had to deal with losing my sight and the turmoil that comes with it, moments like these make me so grateful for my experience because without losing my sight, I wouldn’t have Lacey and I wouldn’t have met Lillian. Given the chance, I wouldn’t change what has happened to me because I have met the most incredible people and furry friends."

You can follow Chrissy on her Instagram Account at @chrissyrenee where she shares inspiring stories and moments with her Guide Dog Lacey.
