Donation Dog on Wheels Takes on the PAWGUST Challenge

Volunteer Scott with his Donation Dog on Wheels

Scott Driver is a long-standing volunteer with Guide Dogs NSW/ACT. Over the past 15 years he has selflessly helped us in so many ways ranging from volunteering at events, repairing our iconic donation dogs, driving our mascot Guide Dog Gulliver to and from events to raise awareness for Guide Dogs and recently he was awarded the “People’s Choice Award” with his Chinese New Year Art Dog.

It was therefore no surprise that Scott had come up with a creative idea to raise his fundraising goal of $4,000 to support Guide Dogs through PAWGUST.

Scott’s Donation Dog on Wheels

This August, Scott signed up to participate in PAWGUST, a fundraising initiative that encourages people and their fur friends to walk for 30 minutes for 30 days to raise vital funds for Guide Dogs Australia.

Unfortunately Scott does not have a dog to walk with but that didn’t stop him from quickly coming up with the idea of “walking” his very own invention - a donation dog on wheels! This creative invention is a hybrid between a donation dog and a golf trolley that Scott has fitted and painted himself to make his 30 minute daily walks a little easier. As they say, where there is a will, there’s a way!

Scott's Invention: The Donation Dog on Wheels

Scott kicked off PAWGUST with 30 minute walks with his Donation Dog on Wheels and has enjoyed it so much that he has now extended his daily walks to one hour every morning which is not an easy feat! He’s even kept a count of the number of smiles and confused dogs he’s encountered along the way and is eager to reach his fundraising goal for the home stretch.

How Scott and Guide Dogs NSW/ACT Came Together

Scott’s connection with Guide Dogs NSW/ACT started when his Dad started to lose his vision and reached out to Guide Dogs NSW/ACT for support.

Guide Dogs NSW/ACT provided Orientation and Mobility at no charge after my father suddenly lost all left side vision in both eyes in 2002,” said Scott.

Having seen the impact that these services had for his Dad, Scott progressively became more and more involved and we are proud to have Scott as part of the Guide Dogs NSW/ACT family!

Scott’s enthusiasm is infectious. While his Dad is no longer using the services of Guide Dogs NSW/ACT, Scott continues to support the cause with two of the most important resources he can share – time and effort.

While doing so, Scott is inspiring others to support in whatever way they can, and helping to ensure more people living with sight loss can benefit from the services of Guide Dogs.
