Happy Father's Day to ‘Gentle Giant’ Koda

Koda is a beautifully natured yellow Labrador and quite the celebrity around the Guide Dogs Centre in Glossodia. The Guide Dog Training Team will often refer to Koda as the ‘freakishly adorable gentle giant’ and he’s among the most memorable and honoured Labradors to date.

Koda's Journey as a Dad

Koda began his journey with Guide Dogs NSW/ACT in 2016 when he was selected to be a part of the Guide Dog Breeding Program. Only the best of the best dogs are selected for the Breeding Program due to their sound health and temperament and Koda’s reputation most certainly preceded him.

He was always full of energy and leapt straight into his breeding role. He loved making new friends and adapted almost immediately.

Koda thrived in the Breeding Program and and after making his mark for the future generation of Guide Dogs, it was time for a change. He displayed a passion to work, adapted well to new situations and was the perfect candidate to become a Guide Dog.

Koda’s Journey as a Guide Dog

When Koda commenced his five month Guide Dog Training, he did exceedingly well and passed every obstacle with flying colours.

His trainers described him as a fun-loving, happy-go-lucky boy. He would absolutely love it when the harness went on and enjoyed guiding his trainers on walks and to the best cafes. After his walks, Koda would love a BIG scratch at the base of his tail.

On 16 March 2018, Koda received his official Guide Dog harness. He went from being a successful stud to a graduated Guide Dog.

This humble overachieving Lab has touched the hearts of many people throughout his journey. With only one more heart left to conquer, he will put all of his training and knowledge to good use as he is matched with his client.
