Meet your March 2017 Guide Dog graduates

Guide Dog graduates lying down on grass

Meet Pookie, Monty, Heidi, Indie, Gus, Grayson and Gibson - seven* amazing dogs, who, through the help of supporters and volunteers, have graduated as Guide Dogs.

The new graduates were presented with their Guide Dogs harness at a graduation ceremony held at the Guide Dogs Centre in Glossodia. The ceremony was attended by donors, sponsors, puppy raisers, and trainers who witnessed the graduates walk down a red carpet and receive their Guide Dog harness.

It has taken over two years and over $35,000 to breed, raise and train each of the Guide Dog graduates - a journey made possible by the wonderful support of people like you. These new Guide Dogs are now ready to assist people with sight loss by providing them with independence and confidence.

Meet the new Guide Dog graduates

Pookie

Pookie

Pookie is a lovely addition to the team as she presents a real picture of maturity with her handler and with her fellow cadets. While all of the other dogs are busy enjoying a free run on the grass, Pookie can often be found close by her handler hoping for a pat or a treat. Her very willing attitude lovable character will indeed win the heart of any client.

Monty

Monty

Monty is the gentleman of the group. His nature is sweet and his manners are impeccable. He has formed a very strong bond with Leigh, his Guide Dog trainer, over the 20-week training period, which is partly the reason we have selected a female client for him. She and her family have already met Monty and have fallen head over heels for him already.

Heidi

Heidi

Heidi enjoys using the escalators! She will eagerly guide her handler onto them (much to the chagrin of her handler who may not want to use them every time they walk by). Heidi is little miss affectionate and will suit a home where things are on the quieter side so she can dole out love to all and sundry. Heidi will benefit from a handler who just doesn't want to rush around and have to adhere to a strict timetable of events.

Indie

Indie

Indie likes chasing down all his mates to make sure they will play with him. Although playful, Indie has a sensitive side and he shows this through his affection during quiet moments. When Indie is in harness, he has a good pace and requires minimal input from his handler.

Gus

Gus

Mr Gus brought a touch of love to the kennels each day. His affection towards his fellow cadets and his pronounced joyous full body wiggle can melt the hearts of anyone who crosses his path. Gus’ drive to perform combined with his gentle nature will make him a fine guiding companion.

Grayson

Grayson

Grayson's fun-loving character has made him very popular in the kennels. He's a joy to be around. Grayson is strong and eager to please.

Gibson

Gibson

Gibson is quite the extrovert and enjoys nothing more than mixing it up with the other dogs in any of the grassy runs at Glossodia. He possesses a very gentle side to his nature which can be seen in the quieter moments in kennels where he's often been observed snuggling up to other dogs in his down time. Gibson is a great all-rounder. He likes to get up and go when required, but is equally at home resting and relaxing when the time is right.
