Special Volunteer Opportunity - Home Boarding Program

Do you want to contribute to the development and training of a Guide Dog but don't have the time to make the full-time commitment of being a Puppy Raiser?

The Home Boarding Program might be for you!

Guide Dogs NSW/ACT are offering Hawkesbury residents a special volunteering opportunity with a new program which involves caring for and boarding Guide Dogs-in-training overnight and on weekends.

Volunteers return their dog to the Guide Dogs Centre in Glossodia on weekday mornings and pick dogs back up weekday afternoons. This allows these specially bred, raised and trained dogs to undergo their specialised training while also living in a warm, loving home.

So how much will it cost you?

There are no costs to Home Boarders, with Guide Dogs NSW/ACT providing the food, veterinary care, flea and tick prevention and staff are always on hand to answer any questions and provide support.

Home Boarding Volunteers must have:

  • a secure yard
  • drivers licence
  • And be able to drop the dog off at the Guide Dogs Centre every morning and pick up the dog every afternoon during the week, as well as caring for the dog on weekends.

Home Boarders are also required to attend a one-off three-hour information and training day on a Saturday or Sunday at the Guide Dog Centre in Glossodia for basic training.

If you would like to become a Home Boarding Volunteer, email guidedogscentre [at] guidedogs.com.au or call the Guide Dog Centre on 4579 7555.
