Salma Abdo wanted to find an original way of informing her local community about Guide Dog access laws and etiquette, as well as raise funds for the organisation that has given her Clare, her much loved Guide Dog.
Salma asked her local pharmacist, Michael Teghlobi, to assist with her initiative. Mr Teghlobi willingly agreed to place a large collection model dog in his Lidcombe pharmacy, so he could encourage customers to donate to Guide Dogs NSW/ACT, while also explaining Guide Dog etiquette and access rights.
Mr Teghlobi speaks English and Arabic and is well-respected in his community, so he is able to convey these messages to a wider audience. His decision to become involved stems from witnessing Salma gain independence and confidence through her invaluable Guide Dog Clare.
It is this level of commitment and community support that provides the funds we need to continue helping people with vision loss to live the lives they choose.
