Orientation and Mobility Training
Orientation and Mobility (O&M) is about knowing where you are, where you want to go and how to travel there safely. Our highly trained O&M specialists provide training to people of all ages who are blind or vision impaired.
Training goals often include teaching people to use mobility aids such as long canes, Guide Dogs, GPS devices and electronic aids known as Miniguides. Each mobility aid has different advantages, but all can be used to assist participants to travel with more safety and confidence in their environment.
Training goals also often include teaching people to travel to, from and around the environments that they wish to access. Depending on the needs of the individual, this can be as simple as learning to get to the mailbox in their front yard or as complicated as learning to travel through the busiest city centres using a variety of public transport.
Importantly, these Orientation and Mobility services are provided when and where they are needed, and they are free of charge.
If you would like further information about any of the aids or devices outlined above, or would like to request an appointment with one of our O&M specialists, please either call us on 1800 484 333 or fill out an enquiry form.
